The school was founded by the merger of St Paul's Secondary School and The Meads School on the St Paul's site. At first it was called Abbeylands, despite the site having no obvious connection to Chertsey Abbey. Throughout this time, it was a very poor school, and was nicknamed 'Scabbeylands'. The name was changed in 2004 to not only get rid of this name, but to signal a 'fresh start'.
Despite that, it received poor results, had a bad reputation in the eyes of the local public (especially after the burning down of the adjacent church) and had many headteachers (at one point having 5 different ones in 5 years). However, it has started to improve slowly.
Jubilee is a rapidly improving school, recognised in March 2009 as the 12 most improved school for GCSE results including English and Mathematics.
GCSE (A* to C) results have been steadily improving since the school opened, rising from 22٪ in 2006, to 33٪ in 2007 and 48٪ in 2008. English GCSE results have included 6 8% 5 A* to C in language and 73% in literature. The expected results in 2009 show that the school is likely to achieve above 60% 5 A* to C grades.
A number of students in the past few years have managed to achieve multiple A* grades which was reported upon in local papers.
With the capacity for 800 pupils (160 per year group), Jubilee values being small and caring, offering a fully comprehensive education. the vast majority of students in years 7,8 and 9 are first choice; from September 2009 it is anticipated that places will be filled. Surrey CC is in discussion with the school to increase the roll, however governors and parents wish to see the school remain small.
